Did not work right out of package. Smaller than pictured.

I like all the features except one. The hook would end up in the junk draw and I'd never see it again. I'm sure if this lantern were going to the space station, some engineer would find a way to store it in the lantern.
I attached it to the back of the lantern with duck tape. Not a pretty site, but I know where it is.

Contrary to the high reviews this lantern has received from others, our L.L. Bean lantern only lasted a season of very moderate use. We used it in our travel trailer exclusively so it was never exposed to any harsh elements.
I really liked the design of this lantern and its functionality while it was working but to last only a season of usage is unacceptable.

My favorite feature is the ability to adjust the brightness of the lamp. It's durable and light weight and comes with a hook so that you can hang the lamp from a post or tree. The only problem is that the hook is not permanently attached and there is no way to secure it to the lamp. I feel that the hook could be easily misplaced. I look forward to using this lamp often.

I bought one for myself right before hurricane sandy hit the east coast and was glad that I did. Since then, I have purchased several more and keep them in different rooms of the house throughout the year; seems that power goes out here intermittently The adjustment feature allows you to have as much lighting as you need for the task. On the highest output you can read without a problem. Its an attractive lantern and the light shield on top permits the light to illuminate upward without blinding you. You wouldn't believe how often I use them both in the house and on the patio. The red is a red cranberry color and quite nice.

Purchased this to use when the electricity goes out during a storm here in the mountains. Got to use it a few weeks after we received it. We were impressed how bright it lit up the whole living room during our ice storm. Loved it so much that we purchased a second one a few days later.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Sorryboots Looks like a good emergency lantern
I bought this for use during power outages at night, thinking it will give us some decent lighting to make our way around the house, as necessary.
It throws off a lot of light, and I like the fact that we should be able to get some extended use out of on a single set of batteries.
Unscrewing and then replacing the cap to access the battery compartment seemed a little stiff, as was the process of popping the batteries in and out. Not a big deal, but I wonder why everything was extra snug and tight. I find this a minor inconvenience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ypsiladdie nice and bright
I bought this for an upcoming cabin camp in Michigan this summer, but also because oil lamps and candles weren't cutting it for those times when the power goes out. This colorful lantern is nice and light and throws off a goodly amount of light when on full power. The bottom of the lamp has a non-skid surface that is appreciated as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by 50YearPurchaser Great Light - Lots of Light and Easy to Use
As always, the product arrived from LL Bean well packaged, so there was no damage in shipment. Loading the batteries was straight forward, as was the operation of the lamp. I bought this lamp after experiencing three power outages in January. It will definitely fill the bill in providing emergency lighting when the power is out. As with all LL Bean products, I look forward to many years of reliable service. I intend to buy a second one for our cottage in Maine.
