The medium is not too big (2000 cu. inches), and the large is massive (5832 cu. inches). Somewhere in between would suit me better for typical weekend trips.

I bought this in part because the LL Bean canvas duffle that I inherited from my parents has lasted through over thrity years of use and abuse without any problems. This one does not measure up to the usual LL Bean standards for durability. The canvas seems surprisingly soft and tore the first time that I checked it with the airlines on a flight

Bought this bag for a trip to Europe, the bag was much larger than I expected however when I got to my destination I noticed that one of the straps was ripped at the base, when I got back home I reported it to LL bean, who promptly asked me to return it for a replacement, ( I live in the Bahamas) a few weeks later I received my new bag. A good honest company to do business with.

Medium Sunwashed bag is roomy, easily sufficient for three day travel: two slacks, three shirts, light sweater, three tees, shorts, undies, socks, two books, shaving kit, boat shoes, plus it carries on. An attractive bag in British tan, a quality purchase. Would buy another, and probably will for each of our two boys.

Normally I love LL Bean products so this bag was a little disappointing. Quality is great, Zipper sticks a little. The cinch straps serve no purpose on this small bag and only get in the way and get caught on things. The pocket on the side is very small and just barely holds a wallet and car keys. I ordered the British Khaki and had LL Bean embroider my name on the side BUT the color of thread they use is the same color as the bag making it very hard to see. The problem with this bag is not the quality, but the poor design.

I have 2 of the lighter weight medium duffles and use them for carryon luggage and love them- I ordered this for the color but the material is a little too "heavy" for me- but great product otherwise-will return

Just recieved and used this duffle and it is everything I was looking for. Simple, timeless design, well made and strong, solid materials. Got the British khaki and it looks great. Colors and dimensions are true. Here is a tip, if you think your duffle is too floppy, cut a nice piece of cardboard to fit the bottom of the bag, fold up each side an inch or two for added stiffness and you are good to go.

I've had the medium duffle in British Khaki for nearly two years now. It has served me well as a carry on bag as well as a great bag for road trips.
I appreciate the style and the material. I know some people would like more pockets, but I knew what I was getting when I ordered it and still find it easy to stay organized.
The only improvements I could offer would be metal clips instead of plastic and a straight shoulder pad. The plastic hasn't been a problem, but metal ones would just match the rest of the bag better and add to the already good quality of the bag. The curved shoulder pad does not distribute the load evenly on your shoulder. More of the pressure goes to the inside of the curved pad, this could be easily rectified by keeping it straight.

I received the medium adventure duffle in British Khaki for a Christmas gift (2010). Since then I've used it several times and I like it a great deal. The canvas looks good, looks manly and "outdoorsey" and seems to be very good quality. I like the extra compression straps on top for extra security. The zipper is strong. Excellent size for a carry-on bag.
There are two reasons I don't give it 5 stars. First is color. By the picture on the web site, I was expecting more of a brown on blackish color. What I received is more of a greenish Khaki on a slightly darker greenish Khaki. I still like it, just not as much as I like the picture on the web site.
The second reason has been alluded to by at least one previous reviewer, and that is that the handles are simply too long, rather like the ones on a tote bag. I took it to a tailor today to have them shortened because I simply got tired of them.
All in all though, a great duffle that's fun to take on a plane heading to British Columbia for some trout fishing!

Purchased Black - definately NOT Black. Is a stone washed Gray color with Olive color straps??? By looking at it, quality is always consistant.
