Rated 3 out of 5 by oohlala stripping basket
I'd give it 3.5 stars. I've used this basket while seated on a frameless inflatable pontoon and while standing on a framed pontoon, resting on the lean bar. I'm mixed if I would recommend to a friend or not. It depends on how it would be used. I no longer use it seated, as the line did tangle more quickly and I found my lap to be an adequate place to retain my line. While standing, the line still tangles more than I'd like(more than your classic stripping basket) and d/t this I wish the line tenders came with the product. I have found that I have to position the waist belt just right to get the basket level and reduce the tangling as much as possible (but the basket shifts easily)and the basket floor doesn't hang as low as possible (due to often being in a folded, compressed position when not in use) causing line to occasionally fall out of the basket when standing and shifting positions. Would I buy it again? Probably. It serves a purpose. If travelling light and you are standing/wading, I would appreciate this basket since having line drifting in current causes more problems. IF the product came w the line tenders and if the waist buckle system was easily adjusted (for when you removed a jacket, etc), I'd give it or 5 stars. I don't expect it to be as good as a non-packable stripping basket, but it fills a niche.

Nice basket and it is very compact. The only issue I have is that the line tends to coil and tangle itself.

Light, tough, easy to transport. The line lays perfect in basket.

I was disappointed to find that this basket does not include the short posts integrated into other stripping baskets to help prevent line tangles, and even more so to learn that they are available only from the manufacturer at an additional cost of $12 plus shipping for two attachable plastic strips with upright monofilament loops. The basket is small and even more apt than those others to tangle the line below the first stripping guide.

My only regret is that I can not give this more than 5 stars. Excellent build quality and functionality. A must have for any fly fisherman.

I had shopped these for a while for use with my pontoon boat. I am always getting the line tangled up just when the fish are rising. The stripping basket makes all the difference in the world. The size of the Bean basket is perfect. Not too small and not too large; just right. Other versions I see advertised look too big and cumbersome. I also like that it is easily folded back into the stuff/carry sack.
I recommend this product. Makes fishing in a pontoon boat much easier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jnort if you need it, its really great
It was hard to justify....I was going striper fishing. Lots of rock jetty's, a new LL Bean 8 wt outfit....and I threw in the stripping basket on the order.
REALLY glad I did. I actually tried to fish without it - lasted 15 mins and walked the mile back to the vehicle. Made the rest of my 3 day trip SO much better.
If you fish jettys, I'd say some sort of basket is really helpful. This item hasn't been used since...but it's there for the next trip around line-grabbing-rocks.

The basket is well made and provides a great deal of space for excess line. I plan to use it for spey casting as well as regular one-handed casting in salt water. It looks to me as if this basket will be superior to the plastic tubs I have used previously which tend to pile the line in a heap. I bought the line tenders advertised with the basket separately. It would be good if LL Bean carried these too. I think they will help to control the line in the basket to prevent first guide snags.

Rated 4 out of 5 by brian546d decent stripping basket...
this does a suitable job. However, I think it is more greared to being used in freshwater... a more stable basket for ocean fishing would be ideal.
