Rated 4 out of 5 by WesternMEHFT Amazing Boots... after some love
I bought these after my Hawthornes wore out after about a year. These are the highest level of over engineering boots that one could wear in an office environment. They aren't dress boots by any means, but they can pass for the more rustic office attire. I wear these to the office and outdoors doing work on the weekends. The took a long time to break in and I do not recommend wearing thin dress or cotton socks of any kind with these. The first time I did that my calf/ankle/cankle had a blister the size of a quarter.

First, I'll say that I absolutely love these boots. They are comfortable. And they fit great. Which is what makes it difficult to write this review. The boots were a Christmas gift a year ago. This week, I noticed that the stitching had started unraveling in three different places. Including the stitching that secures both of the cap toes on the boots. I wear these boots 4-5 days a week. But it's pretty much just casual wear around town. So I expected to get more than a year's worth of wear from a $200 pair of boots. Of course LL Bean will replace them under their amazing guarantee policy. I'm hoping that I was just unlucky and got a bad pair of boots the first time around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Knuclebuster All time favorite boots!
Took the plunge and spent the extra few bucks as I wanted a pair of top quality boots.
I am very hard on my foot gear as I walk a great deal each day and expose my boots to all sorts of climates and adverse elements.
I only buy foot gear from LL Bean as there is no other company that matches their customer service. Any problems at all and they replace the item.....no questions asked. Nobody else will do that, trust I've been down this road before the few times I tried other brands.
Initially I had considerable discomfort on the outside area of my right ankle, enough that prevented me from wearing them for a week or so. Called LL Bean and spoke with their customer service department. They transferred me to an individual who only dealt with footwear issues. She was fantastic! Suggested a boot care product that cost me just shy of $8. It was at my doorstep in 2 days and has made all the difference.
Can't best LL Bean for customer service.
I love these boots!

Rated 2 out of 5 by LLBeanShop28 4 th pair bought
Seams come unstitched easily. This is the 4th pair bought. This time they look cheap with Chippewa written all over then. Probably will last less time than the other 3 pairs. Scratches on the leather when removed from box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NYtrout27 High Quality Pair of Shoes!!
The oiled leather feels broke in right out of the box. I expected there to be a break in period, but was surprised by the comfort and fit of these shoes from the start. I have a couple of weeks in them now and they are nly gettingn better, which is hard to believe. I am looking forward to years of lasting comfort with these shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JoHoHo Wonderful!
I bought these to use riding motorcycles. Good ankle protection and support. However, I wear these boots everywhere and much of the time! Comfortable, required no break-in, and rugged, without being hiking boot gnarly. Highly recommend them!

Rated 3 out of 5 by bootbuyer22 Ok boots, just not what I expected
I purchased these for my husband looking for an alternative to a high quality brand of boots we love that was a little more affordable. I was disappointed to find when we received the boots that they are Chippewa boots, which is a brand we have passed over in the past because the quality and fit are not as good as our favorite brand. If I had known that they were made by Chippewa I wouldn't have purchased them. They are decent boots, but I don't think they would last 10 years like his last pair. Fortunately LL Bean has such a great guarantee you could exchange them if they don't last, but we decided to return them anyway since my husband has slightly narrow feet and they were a little too wide.

I bought these for my son in law for Christmas. I can only tell you that when he got them, I received a picture of him kissing the boots. So I'm guessing they're pretty great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TerryInSeattle 10 years and still loving these boots!
As a contractor, I needed a comfortable pair of boots and after trying a few others, I've had no need to look elsewhere. I don't remember the break in, so it couldn't have been as bad as some others say. I strip and oil or wax them twice a year, not as often as my drill sergeant would have suggested back in the day, but it has kept them protected and looking good for 10+ years.
Just noticed that the stitching on the right toe is coming loose so I'm headed to the cobbler. Either he can fix 'em or I'll buy a new pair without hesitation.
It is interesting to think about how attached I become to durable leather goods - work gloves, baseball mit, the football of my youth, and boots like these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by brooks11 Best looking boots as well....
Have been eyeing these boots for a few years now and finally pulled the trigger. Absolutely one of the best looking boots I've ever seen. I don't work outside or live in Maine, bought these boots mainly for their appearance to wear with jeans and ended up wearing them all the time in the rain, snow (actually more slush in Atlanta) and they clean right up. A few days to break in properly, especially where the top hits above the ankle area, can be rather tight but it goes away especially with heavy wool socks bunched in that area to pressure them outward.
Extremely pleased and the compliments are plenty.
