How many times have you sprinted from the parking lot to the office or from the lakefront to the tent in a meager windbreaker, only to arrive wet and shivering? Gear up for the next squall with Gore-Tex®. Not even the foulest weather can penetrate it. Altogether, a single square inch of Gore-Tex laminated fabric has more than nine billion microscopic pores that slough off wind and rain while allowing perspiration to pass through. Next time, you'll stay warm and dry.
Background A polymer membrane designed for high performance, Gore-Tex first appeared in gloves in 1981. Each pore is 20,000 times smaller than a raindrop but 700 times larger than a molecule of water. The resulting laminated fabric creates a waterproof, windproof barrier that defies severe weather while breathing during high exertion.
