Wildlife, natural beauty, scenic byways and dozens of recreational activities are some of the highlights of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. This region is home to more than 400 species of fish and wildlife including elk, deer and bear. Water is a major attraction with 34 lakes and reservoirs and more than 680 miles of rivers and streams - more than can be found in any other southwestern forest. Camping is permitted in nearly all areas of the forests. At several heavily-used locations, such as Lee Valley Reservoir, Greer Lakes, Woods Canyon Lake and Big Lake, camping is restricted to established campgrounds. Several wilderness areas offer opportunities for backpacking, hiking and wildlife watching. Groups are restricted in the Mount Baldy Wilderness due to the area's popularity. The forest's TTY number is 928-333-6292. Photo credits in order: Courtesy of Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. |
