Worlds End State Park

Loyalsock Creek has carved a path through steep mountains.

Early travelers wondered if they'd reached the end of the world when they came upon the narrow, winding valley of Loyalsock Creek, hugged by steep, mountainous slopes. Today, outdoor lovers seek recreation at Worlds End, a 780-acre state park adjacent to the Loyalsock State Forest, just south of Forksville.

Kayakers ride the whitewater on Loyalsock Creek, but conditions are suitable for the sport only about six times a year, in spring and fall. The roiling water is not recommended for canoes. Swimmers also cool off in the refreshing mountain waters of Loyalsock Creek.

The park has about 20 miles of steep, rocky hiking trails, and backpackers use it as a base for hiking the 59-mile Loyalsock Trail. There is no backpack camping permitted within the park. An overlook above the campground is accessible by car or hiking trail.

Cross-country skiers can enjoy their sport in the park, but there are no designated trails. There's also good skiing and snowmobiling in the state forest.

Hunting for deer, bear, turkey, grouse and squirrel is limited. Trout fishing is excellent most of the year.

Overnight facilities include 19 rustic cabins and a year-round 70-site tent and trailer campground.
