Laura S. Walker State Park, a popular camping area, at evening. The pine-barrens tree frog lives in the swamps of this region. This is one of the few state parks ever named for a woman and it is an honor that is richly deserved. Laura S. Walker was a Georgia writer, teacher, civic leader and naturalist who was a great lover of trees and worked for their preservation. Located near the famous Okefenokee Swamp and National Wildlife Refuge, this small park has an abundance of indigenous animals and plants. Camping, fishing, boating, canoeing and waterskiing are popular activities. The 631-acre park contains a 120-acre lake, tent and trailer campsites, picnic shelters, two nature trails, fishing dock and boat ramp. A parking fee is charged.
