Colorado Bend State Park is a wilderness park whose significant attractions include a waterfall, caves and entry to a scenic 10-mile stretch of the Colorado River.

Some of its attractions are accessible only by guided tour. Gorman Falls, a beautiful 60-foot cascade on a Colorado tributary, is distinguished by its geological formations and lush vegetation. Pools at the base support miniature aquatic communities. The guided hike to Gorman is a 1.5-mile round trip through attractive hill country.

Park staffers also lead tours of the parks' wild caves. The caves' fragility and the hazards they pose, including insufficient oxygen and poisonous gases, necessitate guided access.

When the water level in Lake Buchanan is normal, the Colorado River is navigable from the park's boat ramp. Boaters and paddlers enjoy beautiful views of canyon country along the way.

In years of normal rainfall, the river supports great fishing. Early spring runs of white and striped bass are very popular. Yellow, channel and blue catfish bite year-round.

Nearly 16 miles of hiking and 14 miles of mountain bike trails wind through these 5,328 acres of former ranchland. About 155 species of birds have been documented at the park, including golden-cheeked warblers, black-capped vireos and bald eagles.

The developed campground has tables, fire rings and grills, compost toilets and potable water. There are also two hike-in primitive camping areas.

Those wishing to hunt in the park must obtain authorization through a statewide lottery system.
