Cedar Breaks resembles a miniature Bryce Canyon with brilliant colors. The 6,155-acre park sits at 10,000 feet elevation and is shaped like a giant coliseum, dropping 2,000 feet from clifftop to floor. A five-mile road journeys through the highcountry of Cedar Breaks, leading to scenic overlooks, trailheads and a visitor center. There are two short hiking trails around the canyon rim, but no established trails that descend from the rim to the amphitheater floor. At Spectra Point, visitors can view a gnarled and weatherbeaten bristlecone pine that has lived more than 1,600 years. The park offers guided nature walks and evening campfire programs. Heavy snows generally close park facilities from November to mid-May, but the park remains open to cross-country skiers, snowshoers and snowmobilers.
