At Red Rock Canyon State Park, the southernmost tip of the Sierra Nevada converges with the El Paso Range. Here, on 28,000 acres, visitors find California's most colorful geological formations. Also on display are a natural amphitheater and numerous tributary canyons. The cliffs range in color from white to vivid red. The red rock formations are most beautiful at sunrise and sunset. The visitor center is situated at the Ricardo Ranger Station, once the site of a busy stagecoach station during the area's Gold Rush days. The park is located on Hwy. 14, 25 miles north of Mojave.
