This region's lush landscape was the setting of James Fenimore Cooper's tales.

Chenango Valley, 13 miles north of Binghamton off Route 369, is a park of green valleys, clear lakes and diverse recreation.

The park provides ten miles of hiking trails and four miles of biking trails, as well as eight miles of cross-country skiing trails. Ice-skating is a festive winter activity.

Camping is also popular here, and there are cabins nearby.

Characteristic of New York's Central Region and quite common in Chenango are "kettle" lakes, created when glaciers scoured this valley millions of years ago.
