Paleontologists excavate a mammoth tusk at the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area.

Along 44 miles of the San Pedro River, visitors can view the rare gray hawk and 250 other neotropical bird species that stop at this migration flyway en route to and from Mexico.

Visitors can also visit significant prehistoric and historic community sites throughout the area.

The intersection of the river and Hwy. 90 is the most popular birdwatching area. Visitors must hike in for several minutes to reach the river.

At the Hereford Crossing of the river, 20 miles southeast of Sierra Vista, visitors can reach the river easily from their cars.

There are wonderful hiking trails along the river. They may be reached from several trailheads along the conservation area.

At the information center, visitors can get information on the area and can walk to the river in less than 15 minutes.

There are no developed campgrounds, only backcountry camping is permitted.

Mountain biking is permitted.
