Algonac State Park stretches for half a mile along the St. Clair River, where summer visitors gather to watch the freighters and pleasure boats pass by. The river is known for its excellent walleye and salmon fishing. Interpretive trails wander through oak and prairie savannas. The park also has an archery range and trap-shooting range. Hunting is permitted during fall and winter. Two campgrounds have 296 modern sites, and winter camping is available. The 1,500-acre park is home to rare habitats, the lake plain prairies and oak savannas provide places to view prairie plants, birds and butterflies.
