Unusual geological formations at the Gooding City of Rocks.

The Gooding City of Rocks and Little City of Rocks are landscapes of exotic geological formations in the Bennett Hills northwest of Gooding.

The landscape contains welded volcanic tuff, formed when intense eruptions produced dense clouds of ash.

The eroded canyons are dominated by lookalike hoodoos, arches, mushroom caps and tuffs. They also are home to diverse wildlife such as a variety of raptors and a world-class population of mule deer.

There are no facilities or services, visitors must come equipped with plenty of fuel and water. Primitive camping is permitted.

This is wild, remote country. The roads are difficult to navaigate and four-wheel-drive, high-clearance vehicles are required.

Visitors should be prepared for any emergency. Help can take a while to reach you.

These areas are Wilderness Study Areas, which means they are managed to retain wilderness qualities until Congress chooses to designate them as wilderness or release them from study.

Vehicle travel off designated roads is prohibited. Please practice no trace-type recreation and camping in these areas.
