Pequest Hatchery staff stock the Pequest River with trout. An angler tries his luck at the wildlife site. This wildlife management area, part of the state Division of Fish & Wildlife's 300,000-acre system, is on Route 46 nine miles west of Hackettstown. It has some of the state's best trout fishing in the Pequest River. The site covers over 4,000 acres of woodlands and fields. On the grounds is the Pequest Trout Hatchery & Natural Resource Education Center, where visitors can feed fish and learn how the fish are raised. There are also wheelchair-accessible fishing sites along the river. Hiking trails provides scenic overlooks and great sites to view hawks and songbirds. Other wildlife includes deer, rabbits, squirrels and wild turkey. Photo credits in order: Courtesy of the Pequest Hatchery. Courtesy of New Jersey Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife. |
