Sailboats are silhouetted against an orange sky at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park. The park's cottage, lodge and golf course complex. Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park takes full advantage of its location on massive Kentucky Lake. The first of three state resort parks to be constructed on Kentucky Lake, this 1,200-acre park is located at the lake's northern tip, not far from where it connects by canal to Lake Barkley. Together, the two lakes form one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, and they surround the Land Between the Lakes, a 170,000-acre federal recreation area just five miles from the park. Fishing boats, houseboats, pontoons, rowboats and ski boats are rented at the 325-slip marina, the largest in the Kentucky State Parks system. Sailing and windsurfing are also popular. The fishing is outstanding. Anglers catch smallmouth, largemouth, Kentucky and white bass, crappie, bluegill, sauger and blue catfish. The park's resort-style accommodations include a lodge and cottages, golf course and swimming pool. A 221-site campground with utilities is open year-round. Horses can be rented, and nature programs are offered. Though there is no hiking or biking within the park, both activities can be found at the Land Between the Lakes, which offers 158 miles of trails, scenic roads and mountain and road biking.
