Overnight visitors to Edisto Beach State Park are lulled to sleep by sounds of the sea. This 1,255-acre park includes 1.5 miles of sand beach, a 63-site oceanside campground and a 50-site campground overlooking the salt marsh plus seven cabins, two of which are wheelchair-accessible, overlooking Scott's Creek. Some of the state's tallest palmetto trees are located here and gracious live oaks shade the campground. A four-mile loop hiking trail runs through the maritime forest and a saltwater marsh provides good fishing for trout, redfish and flounder. The refuge now has an Interpretive Center that teaches about the ACE Basin, where the Awendaw, Catawba, and Edisto rivers merge and empty into the ocean.
