A view of the underwater world of Biscayne National Park.

The coral reefs of Biscayne National Park are home to many species.

In most national parks, land dominates the picture, but Biscayne is different. Here, water and sky overwhelm the landscape in every direction while bits of low-lying land appear remote and insignificant.

Biscayne is a paradise for marine life, water birds, boaters, fishermen, snorkelers, water skiers and divers. The park's spectacular, living coral reefs host a galaxy of colorful tropical fish. Some of the more popular reefs have mooring buoys.

The Dane Fascell Visitor Center at Convoy Point offers a 50-seat movie theater, exhibits, art gallery and a large selection of books exploring the local marine life.

The ground at Convoy Point, which is universally accessible, provides picnic tables and grills and a boardwalk and scenic jetty where anglers try their luck. A limited amount of visitor boat docking space is free. Canoe and kayak rentals are available and the park's concessionaire offers glass bottom boat tours, scuba and snorkel trips to the coral reefs and boat transportation to the Elliott Key Campground, 8 miles across the bay, which offers restroom facilities, drinking water and a nature trail.

Primitive camping is also available on Boca Chita Key. There are fees to dock and camp at these campgrounds.

There are no campgrounds on the mainland, but other parks and private vendors operator campgrounds nearby.
