Canoeists paddle down the Buffalo River. Water cascades down a jumble of rocks along the Buffalo National River. Steep bluffs line the Buffalo River, as in this section called The Narrows. Offering both swift-running and placid stretches, the Buffalo is one of the few remaining unpolluted, free-flowing rivers in the continental United States. It courses through multicolored bluffs and past numerous springs along its 150-mile length from the Boston Mountains to the White River. Canoe launch sites, canoe rentals and guided canoe trips make it easy to enjoy paddling on the Buffalo River. Fishing, picnicking, hiking, swimming and camping also are enjoyed on and alongside the river. The visitor center is at Tyler Bend, 31 miles south of Harrison on Hwy. 65. Information centers are at Buffalo Point off Hwy. 14, at the Pruitt Ranger Station off Hwy. 7 and at park headquarters on Walnut and Prospect streets in Harrison. There are 12 campgrounds. Nine charge fees and the remainder are free. Buffalo Point offers water and electricity. Some campsites can be reserved by calling 877-444-6777. Cabin rentals are available from Buffalo Point Concessions in Yellville, phone 870-449-6206. Meals are served in the Buffalo Point Restaurant from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
