Atalaya, the former winter home of Archer and Anna Huntington, for whom the park is named.

Huntington Beach State Park is a remarkable place of varied habitats.

A freshwater lagoon is home to marsh hens and alligators. A salt marsh is a nursery to abundant plants and animals. The dune-protected beach is bordered by sea oats and a maritime forest offers the shade of loblolly pines.

This 2,500-acre park is considered one of the finest bird watching areas on the East Coast. Resident and migratory birds include bald eagles, painted buntings, wood storks, least terns and piping plovers. Nature trails and boardwalks extend into the forest and along the marshes with observation decks so visitors enoy great views of the alligators and other wildlife.

The campground provides 133 sites with beach access.

Visitors can enjoy some surf fishing or fish off the jetty.

Located within the park is Atalaya, a National Historic Landmark. This unique Spanish style castle was once the winter home of Archer and Anna Huntington, philanthropist and noted sculptress.
