Horseback riders enjoy the open spaces at Hill Country State Natural Area. A backpacker enjoys the Hill Country State Natural Area. Visitors to the wild Hill Country trek in with llamas. This 5,400-acre park offers the best of the renowned hill country of Texas, including rocky hills, grasslands, canyons, flowing springs and shady oak groves. Once an equestrian-only ranch, the park has become increasingly popular with hikers, backpackers and mountain bikers who enjoy the 40 miles of multi-use paths and primitive campsites. There are no paved roads. There is fishing along West Verde Creek and kayaking along the Medina River, adjacent to state lands.
