The Osceola National Forest encompasses 200,000 acres in northeastern Florida, about 50 miles west of Jacksonville.

Pine flatwoods and cypress-hardwood swamps cover much of the forest. The red-cockaded woodpecker an endangered species, makes its home here. Ocean Pond, a natural, 1,760-acre lake, attracts campers, anglers and boaters and features three recreation areas.

The Olustee Beach Day-Use Area has fishing facilities and an interpretive trail accessible to people with disabilities.

A 23-mile section of the Florida National Scenic Trail meanders its way through the Osceola National Forest. There are 20 boardwalks located on this section of the hiking trail that offer a drier view of swamps and wetland habitat. A primitive camp shelter is located along the Florida National Scenic Trail and is available on a first come, first served basis.

Primitive camping is allowed anywhere on the national forest except at Olustee Beach. However, camping is restricted to designated hunt camps and Ocean Pond Campground during hunting season.
