Open water and favorable winds draw sailboarders to Keyhole State Park.

The clear waters of the Keyhole Reservoir provide excellent fishing.

This picnic pavilion at Keyhole State Park overlooks Eggie Creek Bay.

The wide, open spaces of Wyoming become almost lush in Keyhole State Park, a 14,720-acre recreation area at the edge of the Black Hills.

This region was Sioux land until the Gold Rush of 1874. Today, the hilly grasslands are populated with sage brush, antelope and colorful displays of wildflowers such as mariposas and common evening primrose.

The park has five primitive campgrounds and backcountry camping is permitted throughout the park. Fishing is popular, with stocks of northern pike and walleye.

A paved road runs along the east side of the reservoir and offers excellent bike touring. Mountain biking is allowed on the two-mile foot trail and throughout the park.

In winter, the park is a mecca for cross-country skiers and snowshoers.
