The park has a high concentration of leopards.

Nyika National Park in Malawi is the biggest national park in the country. This upland park covers rolling green slopes stretching for miles and forested valleys with steep escarpments.

Vegetation is diverse and so too is the wildlife. Entrance to the park is through the Thazima Gate near Rumphi, north of Mzuzu.

The park has a high concentration of leopard. A visitor may also see serval, hyena, eland, reedbuck and baboon.

More than 250 species of bird have been recorded at Nyika, such as wattled cranes, bar-tailed trogons and Stanley's bustard.

Nyika is also famous for its wildflowers, best seen during the rains and from August to September. Nyika plateau has many species of orchid.

Several short self-guided hikes are an option in the park, and those seeking more physical challenges can enjoy longer trails that require guides.

Other available activities include fishing and horseback safaris. There are accommodations in chalets at Chilinda Camp, about 35 miles from the entrance gate.
