Addo Elephant National Park is situated 45 miles from Port Elizabeth in South Africa. It occupies an area of approximately 22,222 acres.
Established in 1931 with only 11 elephants, there are now over 200 of these magnificent creatures. The park is also home to black rhino, cape buffalo and antelope. There are more than 160 species of birds.
The park also contains the flightless dung beetle, rarely found elsewhere in the region.
The park has internal gravel roads, with a surfaced access road, and is open throughout the year. The climate in the park is temperate to warm.
Accommodation in Addo Elephant National Park includes guest cottages, bungalows and forest huts. There are also campsites, a picnic area, a swimming pool for resident visitors, a restaurant and a shop.
Activities in the park include game viewing there is an illuminated waterhole for nighttime viewing, bird watching, hiking and horseback riding.
