Located 7.5 miles from Fortuna in the northern sector of the Tilarán mountain range, this park is home to one of the world's most continuously active volcanoes. The volcano was made part of the national park in 1995 and its daily rumblings and lava flows are the most popular attractions here. Hiking up the volcano should only be done in the company of a local guide, but you can hike around the base on your own. Camping is allowed in certain areas of the park. There is a rough road you can drive down, with a four-wheel-drive vehicle, to view the volcano. Night tours of the volcano are available in Fortuna.
