Emerging from the rolling hills of the Connecticut River Valley, Mount Ascutney dominates the horizon of southeastern Vermont. The peak is 3,144 feet high and is surrounded by more than 2,000 acres of state park lands. Mount Ascutney can by reached during the warm months by a paved four-mile road or by a network of scenic, interconnecting hiking trails. From the summit, visitors can climb an observation tower for a bird's-eye view of the countryside. Camping is permitted in park campsites, established campgrounds and lean-tos. Camping on the mountain is prohibited. The mountain is a favorite launching pad for hang gliders, who take off from a south peak site. Biking is permitted only on paved and dirt park roads.
