Tsavo East National Park is one of the largest national parks in Kenya, covering about 4,536 square miles.

Opened in April 1948, it is also one of the oldest national parks in Kenya. Only a small area of the park is open to the public in order to protect this true wilderness.

The park contains a wide variety of terrains and vegetation. Its biodiversity is recognized throughout the world. You can find bush grasslands and acacia woodlands dotted with baobab and ivory palm.

Tsavo East boasts one of the world’s largest lava flows, the Yatta Plateau. Lugard Falls along the River Athi is another attraction. Crocodiles can be found here.

The park has an array of wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, black rhino, hippo, giraffe, zebra and crocodile. There are about 500 species of birds here.

Tsavo East National Park is a popular safari destination, with easy accessibility from the coast. Private safaris as well as camel safaris are available in the park.

Accommodations within the park include Voi Lodge and Tsavo Safari Camp, as well as many campsite options.
