Pismo State Beach is home to thousands of monarch butterflies in winter.

Pismo State Beach is home to the largest wintering colony of monarch butterflies in the United States. Thousands of monarch butterflies spend each winter here.

Located in the town of Oceano off Hwy. 1, the park attracts bird-watchers and clam diggers who prize the famous Pismo clam.

The beach is wheelchair-accessible and is a favorite spot for swimming and surf fishing. Oceano Lagoon has a wheelchair-accessible fishing overhang. Several campsites and the butterfly viewing area are also wheelchair-accessible.

Camping is available in the Oceano and North Beach campgrounds, however, reservations are recommended.

Four restaurants are within two blocks of the campground and all-terrain vehicle rentals are available within two blocks of the park.
