Coleman State Park in northern New Hampshire is renowned for excellent trout fishing. Twelve miles east of Colebrook in Stewartstown, Little Diamond Pond and nearby streams are known for their trout. A boat launch in the park provides pond access to small boats, but speed is restricted. If full-time fishing isn’t what you’re after, try canoeing and hiking in the spring, summer and fall. Or, return in winter for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. The park is the northern terminus of the Androscoggin Trail, a hiking path that extends 55 miles south to Berlin. Twenty-four primitive campsites are open from mid-May to mid-December. Many of the sites accommodate most camping equipment, including self-contained recreational vehicles with a maximum length of 35 feet, although hook-ups are not available. Pit toilets, a playground and a dump station are also at the campground. There is no running water in the campground from mid-October through the winter. Campground reservations are accepted, but many sites are kept open for visitors who prefer camping on a first-come, first-served basis.
