The 14,735-acre Audubon National Wildlife Refuge is a haven for migratory birds, including ducks, geese, shorebirds and others.

The birds sweep into the refuge during spring and fall and provide outstanding birdwatching opportunities.

An eight-mile auto route takes visitors through the refuge to watch wildlife. There is one-mile interpretive trail, accessible to wheelchairs.

Special events, offered from spring through fall, include birdwatching classes, barge tours to nesting islands on Lake Audubon, banding Canada geese, education day for young hunters, and nest box workshops.

There is ice fishing during winter through March 31. There is no summer fishing.
