The leaves start to turn at Lake Guntersville. A buck caught by surprise at Lake Guntersville State Park. An informal fishing contest at Lake Guntersville. The dam across the Tennessee River at Guntersville created a 66,470-acre lake that stretches 30 miles long. The lake in the highlands of northern Alabama is renowned for swimming, camping, hiking and fishing. Lake Guntersville State Park, on its southeast shore, offers 34 miles of hiking trails, swimming, canoeing and biking on established roads. There are more than 300 lakeside campsites available.
