Once used for cattle ranching, Inks Lake State Park offers 1,201 acres of recreational facilities next to Inks Lake along the Colorado River in Burnet County. The park is a panorama of cedar and oak woodlands, wildflowers and pink granite outcroppings in central Texas' Hill Country. Deer, turkey, quail, numerous songbirds and other species of wildlife are abundant. Visitors enjoy camping, several hiking trails and a nine-hole golf course. Because Inks is always at constant levels, droughts do not affect water-related activities such as lake swimming, boating, water skiing, scuba diving and fishing. The most commonly caught fish are bass, crappie, and catfish. There are two lighted fishing piers, a boat ramp and canoes and paddle boats to rent. There is no lifeguard at the beach. Nature walks, geology hikes, fish seining, lakeshore ecology and Junior Ranger programs are conducted on Saturdays in summer and by special request. Campers find restrooms with showers, some campsites with water, some with electricity and water, and some primitive backpacking sites. There are 22 mini-cabins, each with four bunks. Picnic sites are also available. Photo credits in order: Courtesy of Texas State Parks. |
