Merchants Millpond State Park

This unique park contains one of the state's most scenic wetland communities.

Massive cypress and gum trees covered with Spanish moss form a canopy over the dark, acid waters of the millpond, creating a sanctuary for wetland wildlife.

Quiet paddlers encounter beavers, otters and owls.

Nine miles of hiking trails lead through interesting communities of coastal ponds, Southern swamp and mixed hardwood as well as pine forests.

Both lake and stream fishing are available. Largemouth bass, bluegill, chain pickerel and black crappie are the most popular catches here.

Campers enjoy a wide range of options from canoe campsites, primitive campsites, group campsites and facilities for tents, trailers and RVs.

One trail at the park is accessible for wheelchairs, and all parking, pathways and restrooms at the park office and family campground are wheelchair-accessible.

There is one accessible campsite and an accessible picnic table in the picnic area. The Interpretation and Education building and the toilet facility in the canoe rental area are also wheelchair accessible.

Merchants Millpond is heavily infested with ticks during warm months. Insect repellent may help prevent tick bites and possibility of disease.
