The gaunt ruins of a Civil War-era textile mill contrast with lush Georgia greenery.

Sweetwater Creek is a peaceful tract of wilderness just minutes from bustling downtown Atlanta.

The 2,500-acre park features a variety of natural and cultural resources, including the ruins of the New Manchester Manufacturing Company, a Civil War-era textile mill, and a rich interpretive center and museum.

Nine miles of trails, shaded streams and the George Sparks Reservoir make this park a popular recreation destination. There is a mile-long stretch of up to Class IV white water.

There are three fishing docks, canoe and boat rentals, picnic shelters, playgrounds and educational programs.

Not far from the park are John Tanner State Park, Pickett's Mill Battlefield State Historic Site and Lithia Pure Water Springs.

To reach the park from Atlanta, take I-20 west to Exit 44, and follow signs to the park. There is a parking fee every day except Wednesday.
