Waimea Canyon is called the "Grand Canyon of Hawaii." Hiking trails in the park offer unparalleled views of the Waimea Canyon and Kauai's rare upland forest environment. Waimea Canyon is accessible for hiking, fishing and camping. The ochre-colored Waimea Canyon is called the "Grand Canyon of Hawaii," and stretches 10 miles from Captain Cook's landing site to Koke'e State Park. Hiking trails in the park offer unparalleled views of the canyon and Kauai's rare upland forest environment. The canyon itself is also accessible for hiking, fishing and camping. Pig and goat hunting is offered. For information about fishing and hunting, call the district office 808-274-3344. Kokee Natural History Museum offers exhibits about the natural history of Kauai. Kokee Lodge has a restaurant, gift shop and operates the rental cabins. Kokee State Park and Waimea Canyon State Park, on Waimea Canyon Road (Hwy. 550) in Waimea, are administered by the state's parks.
