The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) has been training "junior naturalists" since 1993. Sponsored in part by L.L.Bean, the AMC's Junior Naturalist program teaches hikers ages 5 to 12 about the mountain environment and how to protect it. After completing a series of activities, the new naturalists are honored at an awards ceremony with a certificate and a special patch. The results of the program: 146,000 kids have been introduced to the wonders of hiking and inspired to enjoy the outdoors. Learn more about the AMC at outdoors.org.
