Maine Outdoor Leadership/Recreation Guide Course

This comprehensive 48-hour course, taught by Registered Maine Guides, will give a range of technical skills to help prepare you to lead day trips and overnight trips for backcountry camping, backpacking, snowshoeing, canoeing, and more. It will also include information on the business of guiding, safety and risk management.
Itinerary
To prepare students for the guide exam, the course will provide a solid foundation of necessary skills including canoeing, boating laws, hiking and winter camping, search and rescue techniques with practice of lost person scenarios, weather concepts and map, compass, and GPS usage. Trip planning, camp cooking and Leave No Trace® principles will be explored to round out your knowledge of guiding essentials. You may also take this course simply to enhance your outdoor skill and knowledge; the exam is optional. Note: Participation does not guarantee passing the State Guide Exam.
Fee: $495
Prerequisite: Basic first aid and three years of active outdoor recreation experience is required for Maine state licensing.
