Kayak Touring Essentials III: Open Water Paddling

Get expert instruction in the paddling and navigation skills you need to explore open water in a kayak—with the added benefit of a guided tour surrounded by beautiful scenery. As you paddle through Maine's unforgettable Casco Bay or spectacular Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, you'll also practice advanced rescue and towing techniques. It's a day of fun and education that will help you get more out of future kayaking adventures.

Itinerary
The tour begins with an introduction to navigation tools, techniques and weather considerations. Then you'll practice chart reading to plan and prepare for paddling excursions. As you navigate through open water, you'll enjoy an ideal setting for lessons in the effects of tide, wind and weather. Towing techniques are also covered. Your instructors will lead a paddle to an open-water destination, where you'll have lunch and discuss Leave No Trace® ethics.

Prerequisite: Kayak Touring Essentials I or comparable experience.
