Kayak Touring Essentials I: Basic Skills Development and Safety
- Spend a day kayaking in a small group led by expert instructors
- Review kayak nomenclature, boat fit and essential equipment
- Practice basic paddling strokes to maneuver your kayak
- Learn fundamental safety practices and basic rescue techniques

The first class in our series is just right for aspiring paddlers who have always wanted to learn how to kayak. One full-day introduction to the exciting world of kayaking will help you learn the essential skills you need to paddle on your own. Experienced guides will share their knowledge and enthusiasm for this healthy, low-impact sport, making this a day of fun as well as learning.
Itinerary
In a small group setting that allows for personal attention, our accomplished instructors will explain kayak design, paddling terminology, and boat fit. You will learn and practice strokes, such as the reverse, sweep and draw. Safety techniques include wet exits, T-rescues and re-entry with a paddle float. Then you'll take a short, guided tour using your newly learned skills.
