Rated 5 out of 5 by Bowhunk VERY impressed ...!
I have been a loyal Bean's customer for decades, but this is the first occasion that I have taken the time to write a review. This item is GORGEOUS. The quality of the material and workmanship is obvious, and the fit is true to size. It's warm, comfortable, practical, and timelessly stylish. Worth every penny, in a "lifetime purchase" sort of way ...!

Just got my jacket and the fit is great! (female, 135 llb,5'6" - size small) Room for a vest or sweater underneath, yet not too big. A classic that both my husband and I just love - SO, he ordered one ALSO ! The wool fabric is heavy weight and will be a great addition to my "coat collection" (most are from Ll Bean!)..I don't hunt, but walk my dogs daily in the woods all year long, so I need to be visible.

This is quite a jacket. After getting it I understood why it's part of Bean's exclusive--i.e. Signature-- series of clothing. The weight of the wool, the brass zipper, the attention to detail all point towards a high quality garment. And yet, I wrapped it up and was set to return it after trying it on several times (which hints at the 4 star rating). I reconsidered, and plan to keep it in spite of its shortcomings.
I'm six feet, 155 pounds, 34/35 sleeve. The medium size fits well except for two characteristics: the sleeves could be a little fuller, and the armholes a little lower, which would permit the wearing of a sweater and add a bit of comfort. I can, however, wear a prima loft vest underneath comfortably, and the jacket hugs you for a warm, neat fit.
So, it isn't perfect but it's a darn good package overall which I'll enjoy wearing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Mbeabout1 Slightly odd fit
I usually wear a size 38 jacket with a 33/34" shirt sleeve length. Ordered the medium which was a little large, but because it is unlined it was ok for layers underneath. However the sleeves were very long. I think they are supposed to be cuffed up, but the flannel is thick and stiff so it's a bit awkward. Returned for a small, sleeves are much better length. A little snug around the chest, but assume this will loosen up with wear. All in all great classic jacket at reasonable price on sale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mrmarblerye Classic jacket. Looks good and it really performs.
This is a great jacket. I was looking for an alternative to fleece that would be warm and durable, through wet and dry. This is it. The fit is spot on and the weight is perfect for the Northern California winter. I got the jacket on a Thursday and winter (such as it is in Northern California) arrived on Friday. I got caught across town (a good hour's walk from home) in a steady rain with temps in the mid-forties and a stiff breeze blowing in off the water. The jacket performed wonderfully. When I got home the jacket was soaked but I was warm and dry. I hung it in the garage and the next morning it was good as new. The red buffalo plaid is classic and stands out, in a really good way.
This is my first experience with Bean Signature and I'm very happy. I really like the fit, and the quality is just what I expect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by OddDuck Great fit, looks sharp, wife loves it
This is a great jacket, easily the favorite one I own. I wear it all the time, and my wife compliments me every time I put it on. Good for the ego. It's very well built and a good value for the price. Would be nice to have a light lining, though, if only to prevent the black wool fibers shedding onto light shirts.

Rated 2 out of 5 by SkinnyGuy83 Too big and spacious
I bought this based on the glowing reviews and how great it looked on the models. I loved the look of the red and black plaid and have long wanted this style of coat that men of my grandfather's generation would wear. Because other signature line products generally fit me well in size "S" I figured this would too. But it wasn't so.
The jacket has a very boxy shape that is unflattering (to put it lightly) on a man with a smaller frame, it doesn't feel "fitted" at all. While the length in the body is fine, the sleeves are at least 3" too long and my hands were lost in them. The sleeves and body are very loose and spacious. I know the coat is designed to be layered over a thick sweater, but I could probably wear 2 or 3 sweaters under this thing. I had to keep checking the label to make sure I was truly shipped an "S". For reference I am 5'8" and 130 pounds. I disappeared in this coat when trying it on and will promptly return it. However, if you are built like a football quarterback like the models in the catalog, go for it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by upinmaine Heavy wool but not lined
On the plus side: It fits true to size (I ordered my husband a medium, which is what he normally wears, and it fits with enough room for a sweater underneath). It is well-stitched and the wool fabric is a heavy wool.
On the could-be-better side: This coat is not lined, something I would have expected for the price and the line. It is just the single layer of the wool fabric. No lining, no inside pockets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by gwnorth23 Perfect in every way
Title sums it up quite well but let me say a few things. Quality feels very high, imported but still very well made. Reminds me of the hunting coat my grandfather had when I was a kid. Fits well, color is perfect and will enjoy wearing it this season and many to come. Bean Signature is spot on with this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BostonAdventurer Favorite Jacket Ever
It's hard to find a hunting jacket that isn't made for a person of, shall we say, very generous proportions, but this jacket is tailored perfectly. This jacket is tough and it looks great. I've never received so many compliments on a jacket before. The plaid pattern is very cool and I really like the button-down chest pockets. I wish that it had an inside pocket, but that's just me. Highly recommended.
