Rated 4 out of 5 by Guy3000 Nice Sweater, Weird Sizing
I'm 6', 180 lbs, slim build, and usually wear a medium tall shirt. For this sweater I ordered a large to be sure the sleeves would be long enough. They aren't and the overall fit is tight. Can't understand the sizing here. I had to exchange a shirt a month ago because the "large tall" was WAY too big and now I have a "large" that's too small?
For this sweater an XL might work for me, but, sadly, it is sold out.

by mbernhagen Not what it used to be...
Unfortunately, that seems to be the theme for countless LL Bean products lately (and hey, I'm only 30 so it's not like I'm harping for the yester years of American made goods).
This sweater used to be made of cashmere + cotton (15% / 85%). The cashmere has been replaced with merino, making this a less soft sweater. They also replaced the waist cuff with the all-too-common stretchy waist that apparently is designed to give your sweater the perfrect balloon look as it hugs your waist, forcing the body of the sweater to pillow the excess fabric down over the waist. It used to just be an ever-so-slightly tapered cuff that didn't stretch and was made of the exact same material as the sweater (so you couldn't see an obvious difference between the sweater and the waist, which you can on this version).
If you like this type of styling, then know that the fit for me was not the best. I'm 5' 9" 160 with an athletic build and the medium was too bulky and the small was too tight (sleeves just hit wrist, length just hit waist, not likely to fit after a few washes, and definitely wouldn't have worked to wear over a dress shirt, meanwhile Medium would still be too bulky with a dress shirt under it). Maybe the medium would have worked after a few washes and some carefully timed drying tests to shrink it a bit, but that's too much work for any shirt, let alone one I don't like.
Needless to say the sweaters (bought V and crew necks in multiple colors, same fit and styling throughout) were returned.
For LL Bean's sake, I've attached a couple pics of the tag from the sweater they used to make (and yes, it is a Signature item as well). Please find the corresponding sweater in your archives and sell that one to us next fall instead of this overpriced "oops".

I wear a large (6'1'' 190lb) normally, but sized up and XL is perfect - the material feels great and looks fantastic!
