Rated 5 out of 5 by OddDuck Great fit, looks sharp, wife loves it
This is a great jacket, easily the favorite one I own. I wear it all the time, and my wife compliments me every time I put it on. Good for the ego. It's very well built and a good value for the price. Would be nice to have a light lining, though, if only to prevent the black wool fibers shedding onto light shirts.

Rated 2 out of 5 by SkinnyGuy83 Too big and spacious
I bought this based on the glowing reviews and how great it looked on the models. I loved the look of the red and black plaid and have long wanted this style of coat that men of my grandfather's generation would wear. Because other signature line products generally fit me well in size "S" I figured this would too. But it wasn't so.
The jacket has a very boxy shape that is unflattering (to put it lightly) on a man with a smaller frame, it doesn't feel "fitted" at all. While the length in the body is fine, the sleeves are at least 3" too long and my hands were lost in them. The sleeves and body are very loose and spacious. I know the coat is designed to be layered over a thick sweater, but I could probably wear 2 or 3 sweaters under this thing. I had to keep checking the label to make sure I was truly shipped an "S". For reference I am 5'8" and 130 pounds. I disappeared in this coat when trying it on and will promptly return it. However, if you are built like a football quarterback like the models in the catalog, go for it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by upinmaine Heavy wool but not lined
On the plus side: It fits true to size (I ordered my husband a medium, which is what he normally wears, and it fits with enough room for a sweater underneath). It is well-stitched and the wool fabric is a heavy wool.
On the could-be-better side: This coat is not lined, something I would have expected for the price and the line. It is just the single layer of the wool fabric. No lining, no inside pockets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by gwnorth23 Perfect in every way
Title sums it up quite well but let me say a few things. Quality feels very high, imported but still very well made. Reminds me of the hunting coat my grandfather had when I was a kid. Fits well, color is perfect and will enjoy wearing it this season and many to come. Bean Signature is spot on with this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BostonAdventurer Favorite Jacket Ever
It's hard to find a hunting jacket that isn't made for a person of, shall we say, very generous proportions, but this jacket is tailored perfectly. This jacket is tough and it looks great. I've never received so many compliments on a jacket before. The plaid pattern is very cool and I really like the button-down chest pockets. I wish that it had an inside pocket, but that's just me. Highly recommended.

This is a great looking jacket. Everything I buy from LLBean is the best. Too bad I couldn't get it at 1965 prices.

Great, classic jacket at a great price...I just ordered a second one in green...I expect to have them for decades. Perfect fit, smart styling, excellent quality. I didn't think clothes like this existed any more!

Rated 5 out of 5 by LoneWolf365 Highest quality, most durability, with L.L. style.
This is what I have been looking for in a wool jacket for the last few years. My great grandfather had a wool jacket that he had bought from one of the original L.L. Bean stores in Maine. It was a hunting jacket and he wore it every winter for many years. When he passed away the jacket was still in good enough shape that my uncle kept it and still wears it every once in a while. This jacket looks and feels like that old hunting jacket, and I am sure that it will last just as long. The wool is very high quality and tightly woven. The jacket is stiff enough to hold it's shape, but does not bind the wearer in any way. It is somewhat short, but not to to the point that it won't keep you warm. I really like the color, which is very bright and the patter is aligned very well. City or country, this jacket will serve you well. Excellent purchase!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by ItalGalinPhilly Perfect Gift for Picky Husband!
My husband's J.Crew peacoat had seen its better days. Sight unseen, I purchased this for him. He usually takes a medium in J.Crew, but is broad in the shoulders. I noted that the fit is a bit more fitted than other L.L. Bean coats, so bought him a large. He was thrilled and loves this coat! He wears the aforementioned peacoat as his "knock-around" coat and this new one as his "dressier" coat. We are both so pleased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by engineer well built, old time wool jacket
I've seen other similar wool jackets made by other brand names and I feel the quality of this jacket is far superior. The wool fabric is tighter, thicker and therefore more durable than the similar jackets I've seen. The collar is thick enough so it can stand up by itself and protect my neck. The care that was taken to match up the buffalo pattern is pleasantly noticable.
This jacket is very well built and I expect it to last for years.
I am 6'-4" and usually order a LARGE TALL from LLB. This jacket doesn't come in TALL sizes. I ended up keeping the XLarge jacket and I love it. Sleeve length is perfect.
The one minor detail that I would like to have seen was for the jacket to have an inside pocket for my cell phone. The outside hand pockets are shallow.
