A Celebration to Remember

From the crack of the road-race starting gun to the last dazzling fireworks burst, our 100th anniversary celebration was full of shining moments.

The fun kicked off on Independence Day with our annual Fourth of July 10K Road Race and Family Fun Run, followed by a Main Street parade with L.L.Bean boots of all sizes – from mini-motorized Bean Boots to the giant, size-747 Bootmobile. The rest of the day was filled with arts and crafts and free concerts in Discovery Park. Country music star Jo Dee Messina capped things off with a concert in our Hunting & Fishing Store.

Day 2 started with a visit from former Red Sox player Rico Petrocelli and Red Sox mascot Wally the Green Monster. The beautiful day was filled with fun outdoor activities as well, including kayaking, archery and stand-up paddleboarding courses from the L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery School, a kids' bike rodeo and a Boy Scouts camping demo. Everyone cooled down with scoops of Muddy Bean Boots from Gifford?s Ice Cream.

Seth Wescott and the folks from Healthy Hometowns joined us at Adventure Park to help get the weekend started with another day of outdoor activities. Maine authors, including Donn Fendler, Lynn Plourde, illustrator Ben Bishop and kids' favorite Chris Van Dusen, stopped by the Flagship Store to sign books and meet readers. Free concerts lit up Discovery Park all afternoon and into the evening.

We closed Main Street for the last day of our hometown celebration for an all-day street festival, filled with local crafts, food and live entertainment for the whole family. Chris Isaak brought the evening to a close with a free concert, and things ended with a bang – our spectacular fireworks show in the summer night sky.
