I have always like this polo, very durable, and looks good. The new fit is slightly slimmer and the fabric seems softer, yet still durable. Best polo I have purchased at any price. In other brands I normally wear a large, but always have sized down for this polo, and previously it was still a little baggy. I am 6 foot, 195 with a bit of a belly, and the new fit is perfect for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by AustinTexasGuy Great shirt but runs very big
I am 5'10" and weigh 200 lbs. I'm difficult to fit because I have a XXL neck, L chest and XL waist. Normally I buy XL polos and they fit decently. The XL in the Double L Banded Traditional polo fit me like a tent. I exchanged it for a L and although the fit is better I could probably go down to a medium and be happy. These shirts are high quality and feel great, but they are HUGE.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Mick151 Not Quite Traditional Fit
I have a Bean's store near me, so I can visit often. I have a few polos that I have bought over the years. Durable and good fit -- until now. I have found that this year's "traditional fit" shirt has had a change made in the sleeves. (The chest, neck and length remain fine.) But the sleeve change makes the shirt uncomfortable and it no longer allows sweat to wick away under the armpits. The maker has elongated the sleeve so it is a little more "wing-like", and while it is slightly tighter on top of the shoulder and in the front and back, it hangs more loosely underneath. That is the last thing you want with a polo shirt. My sweat has nowhere to go. I will not buy another as a result. It is not a traditional fit -- at least it is not Bean's traditional fit. I expect others have experienced the same anomaly. Maybe it is just a supplier issue, and if so, it should be corrected pronto.

I have bought many of these shirts over the years, and like many others here, I wonder why change a great thing? For me, the narrower shoulders means the shirt fits a little tighter across my chest. The sleeves (tall sizes) used to come almost to my elbows, which I liked. I loved the loose, comfortable fit of the past. I suspect the new style is meant to satisfy a younger, "hipper" demographic. LLBean needs to realize that this is not their core customer. The new cut is not a deal-breaker to me, because I still like the fabric and the tall sizes beat anything else I can find. But I would sure be happier if they go back to the old way.

Rated 1 out of 5 by TheNewCoke New fit is HORRIBLE
Returning my new polo today...they really messed up a good shirt that many people loved.
I hate that I can't trust I will get the fit and style I've enjoyed for years.
LL Bean is losing loyal customers...a shame for all concerned.

"Traditional" means "the same as it used to be," otherwise it's not a tradition. The only thing traditional about this shirt seems to be that it's made of cloth. The fit cannot be described in such a way. I'm not going to bother reordering this shirt until it goes back to the old version, which fit me (and apparently, EVERYBODY else) very well. If it doesn't go back, well, Bean has lost a customer. Don't worry, I'm sure I'll die soon enough that it won't impact the bottom line.

Last winter, I researched online reviews and ordered shirts from here and Land's End, which I'd loved in the 70's. I MUCH preferred this shirt, but reading these reviews about the new sizing gives me hesitation!

Rated 3 out of 5 by sfnativeguy New fit is very different
If you've bought these polos in the past and are wondering what the "new fit" hubbub is all about, it comes down to this: 2". Bean narrowed the shoulders by that much (on a size medium) so that now they measure about 17". That won't work for some people. In addition to narrowing the width of the shirt, it hikes up the sleeves, which also happen to be set in at a different angle. I can understand the rationale for giving the cut a more tailored look, but they went a bit too far, even for someone like me who has a slim build. It's not unwearable, but the shoulders in particular are a bit tight and the seam rides too high. My advice: try a sample before you go ordering every color of the rainbow.

Rated 1 out of 5 by DoneWithLLBeanIGuess New "trashbag" fit sucks
The [nearly] unannounced changes made to the "regular" polo shirts that I have been buying for years are horrible. I was beyond upset with the outlet-mall style fit when I received my last batch (of course after washing them so I couldn't return them, not that LLBean wouldn't charge me to return them as well).
After coming back to this site I found the little link about the fit getting changed. I can't relay how angry it made me and there's no way I can now trust LLBean to deliver the well fitting quality shirts I've been buying for years. I didn't know what kind of intent there was (because there was no description of why or how the fit was changed at the time), but all I can say is it fits horribly.
I guess if I were a mannequin and didn't need to actually move my arms the shirts would be OK, but any movement in any direction feels like an over-washed shirt binding under my arms or across my back. If it weren't for the super baggy center, I would think maybe it was changed enough to need the next size up, but it bunches up like a trash bag with arms so I know the next size up isn't going to do anything.
Now the question is, are all the colors going to get screwed up the with the same "cut"? Do I need to quit buying from LLBean all together? Sadly, so far, it seems so.

Rated 2 out of 5 by ALoyalFan New fit is HORRIBLE!
I have bought more LL Bean polos than I can count- I literally have an entire closet's worth in just about every color (both short and long sleeve). LL Bean is the only brand in my "polo closet." If there is anyone who can attest to this company's quality over the years, that would be me. The new fit is absolutely horrendous. It's hard to describe but it is too tight around the arm band and a very strange fit around the shoulder. In the description it says LL Bean "loves" the new fit- well, it's time to reassess your love for this. Why would you mess with perfection??? It literally makes no sense. There can't be that many people with skinny arms and weird shoulders out there!
If you're going to keep this terrible style- which some people might like- please, please, please bring back the original style which people obviously liked and have both options. Or just burn the pattern for this one and get back to what works!
