Rated 5 out of 5 by PragmaticMan Sturdy, Durable, 3-Season Outer Layer
I live in Michigan where the weather is quite variable, and I think this is a great outer layer for all seasons, save the coldest months of winter here. If you wear a sweater or fleece underneath, and there is something less than a heavy rain, you should stay warm and dry, especially if wearing a warm hat. For cool and/or damp fall or spring days, even with a wind, this is fine. The construction is heavy-duty, as are the materials. Cordura nylon is one of the most durable fabrics ever made - I have a soft side briefcase made of it that is over 25 years old and pretty much looks like new, so I think it will keep this jacket looking young, too. Nice fit, too.

Rated 2 out of 5 by CarrieT I wanted to like it
I've ordered several items off the Katahdin Iron Works line and have been very happy with them all, so I saw this jacket and ordered it. I loved the idea of water repellency in a winter work jacket. However, when I received it, I realized that it really was not a warm winter jacket at all. It was very heavy, but had only a thin fleece lining. In order to stay warm, I had to put on a Sherpa hoodie underneath, which added to the already heavy weight. It did repel water, but just was too impractical for my needs. I ended up going with a competitor's brand that was warm, lightweight and water repellent. Hopefully LL Bean improves on this product in the future. Sadly, I had to send it back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by stulumbus perfect for my needs
When I was considering this jacket I read numerous reviews that seemed to suggest reviewers thought the jacket was going to be warmer than it turned out to be. I have to assume those reviewers live in areas that tend to be colder over longer periods than where I live. I rolled the dice and can say I have been rewarded with a coat I feel will not only last many years but will also provide me with the protection from the elements across a large variety of temperatures. In other words, I've worn the coat in temps ranging from the mid 30s to the mid 60s and if you wear an appropriate layer underneath, the coat will give you the warmth you need. Design extras I enjoy are the hand warmer pouches built into the pockets and the inside pockets on either side of the inside of the coat. The hood is roomy and doesn't feel restrictive like some "hoodie" coats I've worn over the years. I'm really pleased with this coat so far and look forward to wearing it for a long time to come!

Rated 1 out of 5 by gingerinri More like a canvas sweatshirt
My husband has had at least two of the Katahdin Iron Works jackets and really liked them. They were warm and functional. This however is more of a canvas sweatshirt, with no warm inner lining. He is very disappointed. Returning this item and searching for a jacket that is similar to the old Katahdin Iron Works jacket.

Rated 3 out of 5 by WAF207 Very rugged and durable work wear
This jacket is very comparable to other brand name work wear jackets, except LLbean has added a few extra touches and attention to details. Like the security pockets and hand warmer pockets, the triple needle stitching. My only complaint/suggestion would be to add a different lining like flannel or fleece instead of the black mesh. This jacket is NOT WARM when worn alone. Like I expected it to be.
