Am returning these as they are not what I was looking for. Well made, good materials, good price. However, as a wilderness tripper and white water paddler/tripper, when I hear the words "waterproof and roll top closure" it means to me a gear bag able to keep contents dry when submerged. This roll top does not seal the bag against water intrusion. It will keep contents dry for some rain but not all day splash or submersion. The sewn thru seams will likely work fine for some rain and wet grass etc., but will likely seep if set in standing water, or the bottom of a wet canoe. Probably great for Hunting as labeled...not a "waterproof" bag for WW or tripping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Boxcar6 Not too large to be functional
I purchased two of these: one in Large (Olive Drab) and one in Extra-Large (Camo). My concern had been that they were going to be bulky and awkward in the field but that is certainly not the case.
The large is a great size for a dove shoot or stalking turkeys and the extra large works very well as a wader bag, decoy bag, or hauling gear to the stand. I'm happy with the length of the handles and the removable shoulder strap.
Yet the best design feature is the roll-top closure itself. It can be folded down into the bag as used as a traditional open top bag or can be used to expand the capacity (over what it otherwise would be without the liner) bag when overpacked by keeping everything enclosed with just the liner.
The velcro is loud so you have to be cautious in the field, but the security and ease of use provided by the velcro more than makes up for this point.
I've had it in the field several times with no issues with the buckles or the waterproofing, which are the only two long term concerns (as is the case with any bag of this type).

Rated 2 out of 5 by seaportmd WARNING Plastic clip broke! Should be metal
Longterm LL Bean shopper, always appreciate the longstanding quality and customer service but see the occasional lapses too, and this is one. This is a very well constructed tote bag and the shoulder strap was a long-needed and welcome improvement. I was very sad to see that the clip attachment was plastic but got bag and used it anyway. I carry a lot around. All well till this a.m. clip snapped at the neck and bag's contents including laptop all went skidding down a flight of wood stairs- ugh, bad. So strap cannot be trusted to carry the heavy loads the bag was designed to hold. This bag should be reissued with a very solid metal clip attachment ASAP, and the plastic-clip bags should be replaced- like a car recall. Thanks for the good work over the years, Bean's; this bag needs some work.

This is a nice rugged bag that carries a lot of bulky items with no problem. It is durable and can handle weight of books or being tossed around without risk of tearing. I would have given it 5 stars but I miss having a pocket area in or outside of the bag, and also do not find the roll top particularly useful. I imagine it would be nice in inclement weather, but I just like to carry blankets, towels, or use it at the flea market for cargo. The roll top does have a nice tight Velcro closure if needed, but since I do not use this, it easily tucks down nicely inside bag. It is gender neutral and handy for multiple uses.

Please add a video on how to close the Velcro top of this bag. Great features & durable Tote Bag, but the closing can be cumbersome for a new user.

I ordered the extra-large size bag for use as a CROSSBODY bag. It arrived today and is going straight back tomorrow. The crossbody strap has PLASTIC connectors! For a bag this size, and the rugged use I'd give it, I wouldn't trust those connectors to hold up very long. And the shorter carrying handles aren't long enough to use this as a shoulder bag over a winter coat.

Love this bag. It holds everything and the cross body length shoulder strap is fantastic. The only thing that should be added is an interior pocket, either with or without a zipper, for easy access to smaller items. Also, the velcro catches and snags things (ie. sweaters, jackets, scarves, etc.) that I often throw in the bag so it would have been great to have this covered somehow without altering the waterproof capability.

I bought the xlarge to use as a wader bag. Works perfect and plenty of room to throw my vest and boots in as well. The shoulder strap makes lugging my gear around so easy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by nwart Probably OK for Hunting
For use as an airline carry on bag it isn't very useful-if anything has to be inspected the entire contents have to be emptied out.
I've given up using it for this use, and going to continue to use my LLbean travel bag that is about the same size, lighter, but 10X more useful, and much easier to load.

Unfortunately, this bag has yet to be put to the true test (a trip to the Galapagos next month, carrying my camera gear). but, if I don't review it now, I never will. It is a good size, seems very sturdy, and if it's truly waterproof and keeps my stuff dry when we inadvertently get wet, as it looks like it will, I will love it. Just wish it came in other colors.
