Rated 5 out of 5áby LSErn Lasts for YEARS!!
I bought this backpack when my son was going into 4th grade. He is going into 8th grade and the backpack is still going strong....nothing has broken. I actually came on website to purchase one for my younger son who is entering 4th....might be costly, but lasts!

Rated 5 out of 5áby suburbanmama Works for my middle schooler
I purchased this backpack last year for my seventh grader. He initially balked at the potential of standing out with a different brand bag from his peers, but the comfort, convenience, and ease of use quickly won him over. There is no doubt that he will use it for eighth grade as well.
He did not have the convenience of a school locker to store gear between periods. Therefore, he needed a bag that could hold everything between classes and through temperature changes. Since he bikes to/from school, everything had to fit, including the sweatshirt that he tears off half way through the day.
Here is everything it holds on a daily basis:
main compartment: 2 - 1.5" binders, spiral notebook, planner
middle compartment: PE clothes w/deodorant, lunchbox and sweatshirt
bottom compartment: running shoes
front compartment: 750ml water bottle
second front compartment: keys, pens, zipper pouch with colored pencils/crayons, pens, erasers, white out, etc.
top compartment: earbuds
He stores his wallet with school ID and phone in his pants. If he also needs to bring his computer this year, it will fit.
My youngest son is starting sixth grade and I'm ordering this bag for him today.
One small issue is the bungee cord. It's tricky to tie things in quickly and the hook attachments aren't strong enough to prevent tearing off when pulling cord taught. Minor issue and easily removed.

Rated 5 out of 5áby galinchicago Great bag, color off
Just received backpack today for my high school daughter. The HS kids carry folders and computer in backpack all day. Also, she needs change of clothers for after schools sports. The backpack has a lot more space than any Northface packs we were looking at. We are excited about the pack itself. Great choice.
Downside: the color. We ordered the Cobalt Sea and monogrammed in Nickel. It really is a bit more masculine color in person. Maybe it's the color combination? It will be fine, but sure wish she had monogrammed in lime green (or some other color) or ordered a different color backpack. Not faulting L.L.Bean, rather noting something to be aware of.

Rated 2 out of 5áby reviewer007 Old Design from 2 years ago was better
I bought the Turbo transit for our high school freshman 2 years ago and he loved it. Old version was light weight and met all his needs. I recently ordered a new one and we are disappointed and shipping it back. The new model is much heavier than the old, the bottom of the main pocket has too much fabric which items can get caught in, too much padding exterior, mesh pocket on the strap is gone, prefer the old unlined phone pocket (more roomy and phone case doesn't stick to the lining), I wish you would offer the old model as a Basic Turbo transit. Sometimes less is more.

Rated 3 out of 5áby MerrySea For the right person, very good
Purchased 8/2013. I expected this to last through high school, but the dividers are torn. It also didn't fit the 3 inch binder that was required for one class. Most books were on the iPad so that didn't account for the space. Outside is very durable. Shoe compartment was great for gym. This year I think we'll try the Super Deluxe because of the greater depth.

Rated 4 out of 5áby triciajenn Perfect but lacks one thing
First, thank you for making a larger capacity pack in a feminine color like orchid. This backpack is perfect and you've thought of everything but one....it lacks an outside mesh water bottle pocket.

Rated 5 out of 5áby Trailesque Pretty much the best
I wear a medium backpack pretty much every day, and have been thru a number of them over the years. I decided it was time to invest in a good one, and this has turned out to be the best one I've owned. It is comfortable, sturdy, and holds a lot more than it looks like it would. I have brought it on short trips, day hikes and bike rides, and it is great for everyday use. On other packs I've had, the bottom would stretch out after a while - but this one has kept its shape. The zippers and stitching are all holding up well. The straps and padded pack are just right, and there are several compartments to choose from. The bottom section is good for wet things from swimming excursions or the gym. I have no desire to try other packs now - this is the one I am going to stick with.
A couple of criticisms - the bungee cord on the back doesn't add much - stuff can fall out from there, and the cord gets tangled and comes loose. Sometimes things can slip from one compartment to another because there are holes between them. The side handle isn't really necessary, but I don't mind it being there. And I wish there were a couple more color options. But overall this is a great item, and I've gotten a lot of use out of it.

áby Skip2MyLou Going strong since 2003!
I saved up to purchase this bag when I started high school in 2003. It's survived daily abuse throughout high school, college, and now grad school. It's my go-to travel bag now, since it can easily hold a weekend's worth of clothes and gear. The front pockets are a little different now, but I've loved it for the 13 years I've carried it.
The one major quirk about the bag is that both zippers on the main compartments have to be all the way to one side or another, or the weight of gear inside will actually open the bag and spill everything. Slightly obnoxious, but definitely not a dealbreaker. I met some really nice people the times I accidentally dumped out my bag!
The shoe bag at the bottom was perfect for carrying clothes for tennis practice, which meant I could go to six classes a day and tennis practice with only one bag (we didn't have lockers, and weren't allowed to go to the parking lot between classes). The lining of the shoe compartment has disintegrated over time, but the bag is also 13 years old and was subjected to daily abuse from sweaty tennis gear.
The bag itself is phenomenally durable: I checked it on a plane in Spain in 2004 and it came back with a large tire tread across the front, like it had been run over! Nothing was damaged and the bag still works perfectly and looks great. The tread marks faded in time, and the color still looks great. It's faded a bit from a bright deep maroon to more of a crimson red, but I really rather like it.
I'd purchase this bag a 100x over. Thanks for such an awesome product, LLBean!

Rated 2 out of 5áby ScoutsRus Not so great the Price
Received this bag for my middle schooler and will return. 3 Reasons
1) The BLACK INNER LINING makes it hard to find things inside. A light grey or even better a bright color liner would be helpful.
2) No LIQUID BOTTLE COMPARTMENT on the outside for easy access. C'mon everyone attends school and/or travels with "AT LEAST" a 16oz bottle.
3) Main compartment not roomy enough for a 3 inch binder and textbooks.
It's a TRANSIT bag so it's made more for traveling than school.
Hope someone at LL BEAN actually reviews these comments!!

Rated 5 out of 5áby prepperminimalist Love, love, love!!!
This is my second Turbo Transit pack. I have my first which got frayed after one of my high schoolers used it. I love LLBEANs lifetime guarantee and I may send back the other one to replace it for her now that she's in college. You can pack a ton in these for weekend getaways. Love the upgrades on the new pack, just received it and can't wait to use it for my new work bag. It will be alot easier than the duffle like bag I was using, which when filled with snack, work items, and extras, would pull on my neck muscles. Thanks for such great service and keep up the good work!!!!
