Rated 4 out of 5 by Sequoian Great Jacket
This jacket is a great concept, wears well, and can be worn for a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, hunting, rain, backpacking, working on a farm, or what have you.
I recommend several changes to make it a better jacket:
1. Eliminate the zipper pocket on the upper left arm. Such pockets are generally useless when there are four other front pockets on a Gore-Tex jacket.
2. The zippers at the end of each sleeve are silly. Hanging strings at the end of sleeves can get hung up while moving through the forest, etc. Simply make the sleeve larger and let the Gore-Tex sleeve cinch do the job.
3. Include an inside zipper pocket. They are handy for phones, compass, car keys, etc.
Otherwise ... buy this jacket.

I have been continually amazed at how hard it has been to find leakproof boots, gloves and rain even carrying the Gore-Tex name. I have bought at least 3 rain suits from Bean's primary outdoor competitors and they have all had problems with seam, pockets, hoods and sometimes just with the fabric itself. I am not particularly hard on my gear and none of this gear has been particularly old.
I found this jacket, and the matching pants, at a Bean outlet. The features, cut and overall quality was really very impressive. The forecast that night was for a snow turning to rain. This is about the ugliest weather there is for deer hunting here in Massachusetts. I bought the suit expecting to try it the next day and to return it shortly thereafter. With 4 inches of snow wet snow on the ground and rain falling I set out to see what was moving. I went slowly all day, and 5 miles later returned bone dry. Toward the end I was working up a slight sweat but the garment breathed wonderfully and kept me bone dry.
To test it in a heavy rain I put it on and stepped into the shower for 20 minutes on full. This must have been the equivalent of 2" per hr of rain. Not a leak to be found. The hood did a great job of channeling water away from the inside. Zippers performed perfectly as did the flaps on the cargo pockets.
There are only 2 area that could use some improvement:
The first is that this is not a packable set of rain gear. It is really too heavy (and a bit too stiff) to fold into a small stuff sack. With that said, though, while it is noisy to put on, once on it is quiet and breathable so I would have no problem wearing it all day when temps are right, even for bowhunting.
The second is that the cuffs, particularly the sleeves, wicked water up about 2" during the shower test. I have yet to find a set of rain gear that would not do this, and this set had the least wicking that I have seen. None the less this is a real issue if you are in a cold wet climate and need to hunt in the rain day after day. Given that this seems to be an unavoidable problem, I did not ding this set.
I will NOT be returning these. The quality is way above average and well worth the price. Features are excellent.
